Maintenance, by the hour meter

Most of what keeps a mower alive is unglamorous and takes ten minutes. The hour meter, not the calendar, is what these intervals run on.

Most of it is yours to do. The rest is a morning in our shop once a year.

Maintenance tasks by interval
IntervalWhat to doWho
Every useClear the deck, check tyre pressures, look over the blades for chips, and check fuel and oil levels. It takes a minute and it prevents most of the failures that feel sudden. You
Weekly in seasonGrease the fittings, check the belt for glazing, sharpen or swap the blades. A dull blade tears the grass rather than cutting it, which shows as brown tips within days and as extra load on the engine immediately. You
Per the operator’s manualEngine oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs and hydraulic fluid. These intervals differ by engine, so follow the manual for your model — we do not publish a number here that might not be yours. You or us
AnnuallyFull seasonal service: deck level set, spindles and transaxles checked, belts and blades replaced as needed. Book it before the season rather than during it.Us
End of seasonFuel stabilised or drained, battery tended, machine cleaned and stored dry. This is where most spring breakdowns are actually caused. You or us

Engine-specific intervals come from the operator’s manual for your model. Where the manual and this page disagree, the manual is right. Blades, belts and filters are common wear items at the Koenig parts counter; anything else is ordered against your model and serial number.

Common questions

How often should I sharpen Gravely mower blades?

Every 25 hours of cutting is a reasonable rule, sooner in sandy or debris-heavy conditions. A dull blade tears rather than cuts, which browns the tips and loads the engine.

What maintenance does a zero-turn mower need?

Blades, belts, air filter and grease on a short cycle; engine oil, fuel system and deck levelling seasonally. The operator’s manual for your model sets the exact intervals.

Where do I get genuine Gravely parts?

The Koenig parts counter in Franklin, IN, Lebanon, OH, Tipp City, OH, Urbana, OH. Bring the model and serial number.

Book the seasonal service before the season.

The shop is quieter in winter, and so is your schedule.
